Even Feed Walking Foot Attachment for Singer Home Sewing Machines

Even feed walking foot attachment for Singer straight stitch sewing machines

This even feed presser foot has teeth to help feed your material. It is specially designed to work on straight stitch old Singer sewing machines, like the 15 and 201 class machines, as well as most of the newer Singer low shank models. The foot has a wide sideways needle slot that also allows one to install it on Singer zig-zag machines. The moving teeth help feed the layers better than the smooth bottom even foot attachments. This is the best presser foot you can add to a Singer 15-91 or 201 machine to sew Naugahyde (upholstery vinyl) or leather.

The attachment screws onto the presser bar, replacing the original foot. The movable lever goes aroung the needle clamping screw, on the needle bar. The motion of the needle causes the inner and outer feet to lift alternately. The needle must move straight up and down and the presser bar must be a low shank model.

You can buy a well built, highly rated, even-feed foot attachment here. This "walking presser foot" attachment has well over 4700 reviews with 77% rating it at 5 stars!

Note: this even feed attachment does not work on slant needle, slant shank sewing machines. Here is an even feed walking foot attachment for Singer slant shank machines.

Roller foot alternative

If you are mainly concerned with the drag caused by your machine's steel presser foot and don't want to bother with the even feed attachment, try installing a roller foot. Check out this snap-on roller foot, designed for domestic, low shank sewing machines.

Please note that adding an even feed foot attachment to a domestic sewing machine will not turn it into a "walking foot machine." You will still only have two bars coming down out of the head: the needle bar and the presser bar. The machine will still only have bottom feed.

Industrial walking foot machines

A true walking foot machine has a third bar in the head for an inside alternating foot that surrounds the needle. The inside and outside feet alternate up and down, with one of the them moving forward and backward with the feed dog to transport difficult materials and climb up and down over seams. You can watch a walking foot sewing machine is action here.

If you need to sew upholstery materials, heavy garments, banners, tarps or leather, consider buying a compound feed walking foot machine (like the one in the video linked to in the preceding paragraph). These heavy duty sewing machines are mounted onto industrial tables that have either a clutch or servo motor under the table and are sometimes equipped with a speed reducer that slows the top speed and multiplies the punching power. Often, these machines are capable of sewing up to 3/8 of an inch of material, with bonded nylon or bonded polyester thread sizes up to #138.
